Description
The McIntosh MC1.25KW Quad Balanced Monoblock Power Amplifier is an uncompromising statement in high-power, high-control amplification. Designed for reference-level two-channel systems, the MC1.25KW delivers extraordinary output capability while maintaining finesse, stability and musical authority under all conditions.
Delivering a staggering 1,200 watts of continuous power into a single channel, the MC1.25KW achieves this with an exceptionally low total harmonic distortion of just 0.005%. Thanks to McIntosh Autoformer™ technology, this full output is available into 2, 4 or 8 ohm loudspeakers, making the amplifier uniquely capable of driving the most demanding speaker designs without strain or loss of control.
Significant engineering updates elevate performance further. A 50 percent increase in power supply filter capacity improves low-frequency authority and increases dynamic headroom, allowing the amplifier to respond effortlessly to large dynamic swings. Heavier-gauge internal wiring, upgraded circuit components and a revised power transformer all contribute to improved current delivery, stability and long-term reliability.
Thermal performance is exemplary. Four McIntosh Monogrammed Heatsinks™ connect directly to advanced high-current output transistors, eliminating thermal equilibrium lag so the amplifier sounds consistent from the first note to the last. These heatsinks are capped with precision-machined aluminium ventilation plates, finished to match the front panel detailing.
Visually, the MC1.25KW blends heritage with modern refinement. The Autoformer and power transformer are housed in glass-topped enclosures, while a circular glass nameplate with aluminium trim takes pride of place between them. The entire assembly sits on a mirror-polished stainless steel chassis, supported by newly redesigned feet with chamfered edges for improved stability and aesthetics. The AC inlet has been repositioned to accommodate a wider range of high-quality power cables.
Despite the extensive updates, key McIntosh design elements remain. The iconic 11-inch fast-responding blue Watt meter dominates the black glass front panel, flanked by control knobs, illuminated logo and aluminium end caps with integrated handles. Direct LED backlighting improves colour accuracy and visual consistency across the panel and meter.
Internally, the MC1.25KW uses a Quad Balanced circuit topology, cancelling noise and distortion before it reaches the output stage. Power Guard® actively prevents clipping and protects loudspeakers during extreme dynamic peaks, while Sentry Monitor™ provides fuse-less short-circuit protection by disengaging the output stage if current exceeds safe limits. Power Control enables seamless on/off coordination with other McIntosh components, and an intelligent power management system automatically powers the amplifier down after prolonged inactivity.
Connectivity is comprehensive. Balanced and unbalanced inputs and outputs allow for bi-amping, tri-amping, secondary system feeds or subwoofer integration where required. McIntosh Solid Cinch™ gold-plated speaker binding posts ensure secure, corrosion-resistant connections with excellent signal integrity.
At Hidden Home Technology, we specify the McIntosh MC1.25KW for clients seeking absolute authority, scale and control from their loudspeakers. When used as a matched pair, these monoblocks can anchor a reference two-channel system capable of competing with the very finest stereo installations in the world.
