Grimm Audio has confirmed that the first production batch of its PA1 mono power amplifier is now being built. After a development period in which only a handful of prototypes existed, the Dutch company announced on 25 August 2026 that series production has begun — and the first dealer reactions suggest it has been worth the wait.
What is the Grimm Audio PA1?
The PA1 is a compact mono-block power amplifier and the newest member of the Grimm Audio family, joining the MU1 streamer and MU2 streaming DAC. Grimm describes it as a new benchmark in class AB amplifier design, focused on minimising the dynamic signal distortions that many designs overlook but which have a real impact on sound quality. The stated aim: the musicality of the best valve designs with the grip and stability of the best solid state.
Despite its compact 250mm footprint, the PA1 delivers more than 200 watts into 4 ohms and is designed to drive even demanding loudspeakers with ease. The design is balanced throughout, with no coupling capacitors in the signal path, extremely low residual crossover distortion and extensive protection circuitry. Both XLR and RCA inputs are provided, with selectable gain to suit low and high output preamplifiers.
The cabinet comes from industrial designer Michiel Uylings, whose work on the MU1 and PW1 gave Grimm its signature clean, quietly confident look. For the technically curious, Grimm has published a detailed Under the Hood article on the PA1’s engineering.
What are the first dealers saying?
Grimm Audio reports that the first dealers to audition PA1 prototypes have been unanimous in their enthusiasm, with one commenting that against some of the most impressive amplifiers on the market the PA1 “put some to shame”. The same dealer wrote:
“The Grimm PA1 made an immediate impression on me with its exceptionally natural, effortless, and energetic presentation. Vocals are reproduced with remarkable body and presence, revealing fine details while retaining a natural warmth — qualities that are surprisingly rare among amplifiers on the market today.”
