Why we install Innuos SPDIF Board – Stream Output Module
The Innuos SPDIF Board is a neat solution when an Innuos source needs to sit at the heart of a digital hi-fi system but the preferred DAC, integrated amplifier or AV processor is best served over S/PDIF rather than USB. In real installations, that often means a dedicated listening room, a media room with a high-quality two-channel path, or a cinema system where music replay deserves the same care as picture and surround calibration.
We typically look at this module when specifying Innuos as the library and streaming front end alongside DACs or amplification that have particularly well-implemented S/PDIF inputs. It keeps the source architecture clean: Innuos handles the server and streaming duties, while the downstream component performs the digital-to-analogue conversion. That can be especially useful where the customer already owns a DAC they like, or where we are building a system around a specific amplifier or processor.
Setup is less about ticking a box and more about system matching. We consider cable length, grounding behaviour, input selection, clocking performance in the receiving component, and how the Innuos unit will be controlled day to day. In a rack-based installation, we also pay close attention to power, ventilation and network stability, as these have a direct effect on how consistent the music experience feels.
Choose the SPDIF Board over a USB output where the partnering DAC or processor clearly favours S/PDIF, or where the system layout makes that connection the more elegant route. Visit our Bath showroom and we can demonstrate how the right digital output choice changes the way an Innuos source integrates into a complete system.
