The MC1502 Vacuum Tube Amplifier is a stereo amplifier designed for home audio and home music systems that produces 150 Watts per channel. It is the direct replacement to our award winning MC2152 Limited Edition 70th Anniversary Vacuum Tube Amplifier, which was released in celebration of our 70th Anniversary that occurred in 2019. The new MC1502 has identical audio specifications and sound reproduction performance of the heralded MC2152 but in a more customary McIntosh design.
Description
Description
The McIntosh MC1502 Vacuum Tube Power Amplifier represents the pinnacle of modern valve amplifier design, combining the romance of classic tube sound with the control, power and silence demanded by contemporary high-end systems. Inspired by the iconic MC275 but delivering double the output power, the MC1502 is the natural choice for listeners who want classic McIntosh character without compromise.
Producing 150 watts per channel of effortless stereo power, the MC1502 offers exceptional dynamic headroom while maintaining an ultra-low noise floor. With a signal-to-noise ratio of 112dB, it surpasses even a pair of mono-configured MC275s, resulting in a quieter background, greater low-level detail and improved spatial resolution. Music emerges with scale and authority, yet retains the tonal richness and harmonic structure that only a properly executed valve amplifier can provide.
At its heart are eight KT88 output valves, four per channel, supported by a carefully engineered signal stage using 12AX7A and 12AT7 vacuum tubes. This configuration delivers superb linearity, wide bandwidth and long-term reliability, without the fragility or complexity often associated with tube amplification. McIntosh’s Unity Coupled Circuit output transformer technology ensures the MC1502 delivers its full rated power into 2, 4 or 8 ohm loudspeakers, making it remarkably flexible when partnering with demanding high-end speakers.
The MC1502 is engineered not only for performance, but longevity. Sentry Monitor™ protection continuously safeguards the amplifier by monitoring output current, automatically shutting down the unit if safe operating limits are exceeded. Advanced thermal management, including Air-Pipe cooling on the KT88 sockets and ceramic signal tube bases with gold-plated contacts, ensures consistent performance and extended tube life.
Visually, the MC1502 is unmistakably McIntosh. The mirror-polished stainless steel chassis, glass-topped transformer housings, illuminated valves and die-cast aluminium badges create a timeless presence that feels both heritage-driven and contemporary. Balanced and unbalanced inputs allow seamless integration with high-quality preamplifiers, while Solid Cinch™ speaker binding posts provide secure, low-resistance loudspeaker connections.
At Hidden Home Technology, we specify and install the McIntosh MC1502 for clients seeking reference-level valve performance within dedicated listening rooms and high-end integrated audio systems. Proper system matching, installation and setup are essential to unlocking the amplifier’s full potential, and the MC1502 rewards careful integration with scale, refinement and long-term musical satisfaction.
