The Chord Company’s EpicX ARAY is a hand-built balanced XLR analogue interconnect, using the firm’s ARAY conductor geometry and ChorAlloy-plated connectors to carry more detail, dynamics and natural timbre between components.
The EpicX ARAY Analogue XLR is a balanced interconnect from The Chord Company, one of Britain’s most respected cable makers. It sits in the well-regarded Epic family and is designed to link source and amplifier, or preamplifier and power amplifier, over a true balanced connection. Like all Chord Company cables it is designed and hand-built in England.
The cable is built from heavy-gauge, silver-plated, multi-strand oxygen-free copper conductors. For the balanced version the design was adapted to use an additional conductor for optimum performance over an XLR connection. It is terminated with the Chord Company’s own ChorAlloy-plated connector pins, and, in keeping with the firm’s approach, is assembled by hand.
The purpose of a cable at this level is to preserve the signal rather than colour it. The EpicX ARAY is designed to carry more low-level detail and dynamics, and to portray the individual timbres of instruments more convincingly, than simpler interconnects — the difference a resolving system reveals when the link between components stops getting in the way.
The interconnect is upgraded with the latest XLPE insulation and retains the high-performance shielding architecture and ARAY tuning of its predecessor. It is supplied in a 1m length as standard, with custom lengths available to order, so it can be matched precisely to an installation.
ARAY is the Chord Company’s proprietary conductor geometry, developed to reduce the internal reflections and timing errors that blur fine detail. Combined with the balanced XLR topology — which rejects common-mode noise across a run — and effective shielding, the EpicX ARAY is engineered to deliver a quiet, low-distortion signal path.
