Description
Overview
The Cue-100 is a high-end passive loudspeaker from Lyngdorf, the Danish audio company. It is an unconventional loudspeaker in both form and engineering, combining an Air Motion Transformer tweeter, a Purifi mid-woofer and twin passive radiators in a striking triangular cabinet, aimed at reference sound from a compact, room-friendly footprint.
Design & build
The Cue-100’s cabinet is a distinctive triangle of three tapered, gently rounded sides machined from 35mm CNC-cut MDF, internally braced, which helps reduce resonance and internal standing waves. The enclosure combines MDF with oak, and the speaker measures 350 × 513 × 329mm (W × H × D) at around 13.8kg each without its stand. It is developed and manufactured in Denmark.
Sound & performance
The Cue-100 quotes a frequency response of 35Hz to 22,000Hz (-3dB) with a nominal impedance of 4 ohms and a sensitivity of 83dB (2.83V/1m). The relatively low sensitivity and 4-ohm loading indicate a speaker that rewards quality amplification, and Lyngdorf recommends partnering amplifiers of 100 watts or more.
Key features
The driver arrangement is unusual: an Air Motion Transformer tweeter with a Kapton diaphragm and neodymium magnet handles the treble, a Purifi USHINDI 6.5-inch aluminium-cone driver covers the midrange and bass, and two 6.5-inch aluminium-cone passive radiators extend the low end without a conventional port. The Air Motion Transformer moves air differently from a dome tweeter, for low distortion at high frequencies.
Technology
The Purifi mid-woofer is a well-regarded high-technology driver engineered for very low distortion, while the passive-radiator loading tunes the bass without the port noise a reflex design can introduce. The triangular, heavily braced cabinet is central to the concept, presenting no parallel internal surfaces to support standing waves.
Specifications
Type: passive loudspeaker. Drivers: Air Motion Transformer tweeter (Kapton diaphragm, neodymium magnet); Purifi USHINDI 6.5-inch aluminium-cone mid-woofer; 2 × 6.5-inch aluminium-cone passive radiators. Frequency response: 35Hz–22,000Hz (-3dB). Sensitivity: 83dB (2.83V/1m). Nominal impedance: 4 ohms. Recommended amplifier power: 100W or higher. Cabinet: 35mm CNC-machined MDF with oak, internally braced, triangular. Dimensions: 350 × 513 × 329mm. Weight: approximately 13.8kg each (without stand).
Who it’s for
The Cue-100 suits the listener who wants genuine high-end sound and a design statement from a compact loudspeaker, and who can pair it with quality amplification to suit its 4-ohm, 83dB loading. Its room-friendly footprint makes it a good fit where a large floorstander would be unwelcome.
