Overview

The MT10 is the reference turntable from McIntosh, engineered to deliver true high-end vinyl playback with minimal setup. It arrives factory-configured — tracking force, anti-skate and cartridge alignment preset — so a listener can enjoy records at their best straight away, without the fiddly calibration usually associated with turntables of this class.

Design & build

The MT10 measures 17.5 × 8.8125 × 21 inches and weighs 42lb. Its platter is machined from silicon acrylic and runs on a magnetically suspended ceramic bearing, isolating the record from motor and mechanical noise. In keeping with McIntosh tradition, an illuminated platter completes the presentation, so the deck is as recognisable in the dark as any McIntosh amplifier.

Sound & performance

At the heart of the MT10 is a custom precision tonearm with a rigid dural-aluminium arm tube, gimballed on sapphire bearings for horizontal movement and ceramic bearings for vertical movement. An eccentric counterweight and adjustments for vertical tracking angle, anti-skate and azimuth allow fine optimisation. Wow and flutter is quoted at 0.10–0.15 per cent.

Technology

The magnetically suspended ceramic main bearing reduces friction and mechanical coupling for a quiet noise floor, while the DC brushless motor with electronic braking gives stable, accurate speed. The dual-bearing tonearm — sapphire for horizontal, ceramic for vertical — combines low friction with rigidity, and the comprehensive geometry adjustments let the deck be optimised to the record and cartridge.
