Overview

The Stradivari G2 is the second-generation model in Sonus Faber‘s Homage Collection, named in tribute to the violin-maker Antonio Stradivari and reintroduced two decades after the original to mark the company’s 40th anniversary. It is a 3.5-way floorstanding loudspeaker that brings the marque’s latest technologies together in a hand-finished Italian cabinet, and it sits among Sonus Faber’s reference designs.

Design & build

The Stradivari G2 is built and finished in Italy, in high-gloss lacquered wood with black leather and aluminium detailing, following Sonus Faber’s tradition of loudspeakers made like fine instruments. The midrange is loaded in a sealed enclosure with Intono technology, while the woofers use a vented “Stealth Ultraflex” system. Each unit stands 1374mm tall and weighs 81.5kg.

Sound & performance

As a 3.5-way design the Stradivari G2 spreads the range across dedicated drivers for a natural, well-integrated presentation with genuine scale. Sonus Faber quotes a frequency response of 25Hz–35,000Hz, a sensitivity of 92dB SPL (2.83V/1m), a nominal impedance of 4 ohms and crossover points at 160, 220 and 2200Hz. It shares the Homage Collection with the closely related Il Cremonese lineage of reference floorstanders.

Key features

The driver complement comprises a 28mm DAD Arrow Point extended-range soft-dome tweeter with a high-power neodymium motor, a 150mm neodymium-motor midrange and two 260mm woofers using a Dual Drive Motor System. Intono technology treats the midrange chamber to a natural mid-band, while the woofers can be adapted to the size of the room for controlled, even bass.

Technology

Intono technology channels the air-spring energy behind the midrange through a calibrated duct, reducing the size and component count of the crossover for a more natural mid-band. Sonus Faber’s Clepsydra reflex system uses an hourglass geometry and a down-firing port for extended low frequencies with flexible placement, and the dual-gap woofer motor is designed for symmetry of force and lower distortion.
