Overview

The Olympica Nova II is the most compact floorstanding loudspeaker in Sonus Faber’s Olympica Nova collection. A genuine three-way design, it is built for listeners who want the scale, tonal separation and bass authority of a floorstander in a cabinet sized for a real room. It carries the collection’s Sonus Faber engineering and Natural Sound voicing into an approachable footprint, and remains one of the most versatile speakers in the range.

Design & build

The cabinet follows Sonus Faber’s signature form, hand-finished in Italy with real wood on the front baffle and cabinet sides set within a robust die-cast aluminium frame. Bass loading is by a para-aperiodic vented arrangement, part of the Stealth Ultraflex system, whose extruded aluminium port is shaped to minimise turbulence and reduce distortion. It is a design meant to be seen as well as heard.

Sound & performance

As a three-way floorstander the Nova II hands each part of the range to a dedicated driver, giving an open, uncoloured midband and controlled, tuneful low end. Quoted frequency response is 40Hz–35kHz, with a sensitivity of 88dB, so it fills a medium room with ease while keeping the composure and natural timbre that define these loudspeakers.

Key features

The driver complement pairs a 28 mm H28 XTR3 DAD silk-dome tweeter on a neodymium motor with a 150 mm natural-fibre midrange and a 180 mm woofer using a sandwich cone of two cellulose skins around a syntactic-foam core. Sharing its tweeter and voicing philosophy with the wider collection, the Nova II blends cleanly with its stand-mount and centre-channel siblings in a multi-channel system.

Technology

The DAD (Damped Apex Dome) tweeter applies localised damping at the dome’s apex to smooth and extend the top end. The midrange cone is an air-dried, non-pressed blend of cellulose and natural fibres in keeping with the Natural Sound philosophy, while the Paracross Topology crossover uses Jantzen inductors and custom capacitors developed with ClarityCap.
