Home Cinema Installation in Cheltenham

A proper home cinema is a designed room, not a shopping list. Hidden Home Technology designs, builds and calibrates dedicated cinema rooms and high-performance media rooms in Cheltenham — in Regency townhouses around Montpellier and Pittville, family homes in Charlton Kings and Leckhampton, and Cotswold properties on the town’s fringes.

We are a CEDIA member (A-356536), and we’ve been doing this a long time: our founder Dan has designed and installed home technology since 2001, and the company has run since 2004. That experience shows most in the rooms themselves — how they sound, how they look with the lights up, and how easily the whole thing runs from one remote.

How a cinema project works

1. Brief and feasibility

We start with your room — or the room you’re thinking of stealing. We look at dimensions, structure, sightlines, ventilation and access, and we’re honest about what a given space can and can’t do before you spend anything.

2. Room and acoustic design

Seating positions, screen size and speaker layout are worked out together, not in isolation, alongside acoustic treatment planned into the interior design rather than stuck on afterwards. The result is a room that looks like it belongs in your home.

3. Equipment specification

Projector or premium display, screen, processing, amplification and speakers are chosen to suit the room and the budget — and because we’re a retailer as well as an installer, we supply the equipment too, with premium options demonstrated and discussed rather than sold off a page.

4. Build and installation

Our team handles the technical fit-out and works alongside your builder or ours — cabling, racks, screen wall, lighting and finishes — keeping every stage tidy and reversible where the fabric of a period building demands it.

5. Calibration

Every room is calibrated with industry-standard tools before handover. This is the step that separates a cinema that impresses on day one from one that still impresses in year ten.

Rooms we convert in Cheltenham

Cheltenham’s housing stock is full of cinema candidates: cellars and lower-ground floors beneath Regency terraces, loft spaces, underused dining rooms, and gardens with space for a dedicated outbuilding. We recently completed a garden-room cinema just down the road in Gloucester — acoustic engineering, interior and lighting design, and calibration of a Dolby Atmos system — and a home cinema in a Cotswold period house, where the room had to respect the building around it.

If you’d like an early feel for numbers, our home cinema cost calculator is a useful starting point before we talk.

Cinema, or media room?

Not every home wants a fully dedicated room. A media room — a beautiful living space with a serious screen, discreet speakers and simple control — often suits Cheltenham’s period reception rooms better, and technology such as hidden TVs and moving screens lets the room return to being a room when the film ends. We design both, and we’ll tell you honestly which your space favours.

Frequently asked questions

Can you build a cinema in a period or listed building?

Yes — much of our work is in period property. Cable routes, acoustic treatment and equipment placement are planned to respect the building, and we keep interventions as reversible as possible.

Do you supply the equipment as well as install it?

Yes. We’re a specialist retailer and installer in one, so design, supply, installation and calibration all come from the same team — and there’s no finger-pointing between shop and fitter if anything needs attention later.

How long does a dedicated cinema take?

It varies with the room and the level of build work, from a few weeks for a straightforward media room to several months for a full dedicated cinema with structural and interior work. We’ll give you a realistic programme at the design stage.

Does being based in Bath matter?

In practice, no. Cheltenham is an easy run from Bath, we already work across Gloucestershire, and installation is planned in full days on site. See everything we do locally on our Cheltenham overview page.
