Description
Overview
The 606 S3 is the standmount in Bowers & Wilkins‘ 600 Series to reach for when a room deserves a proper hi-fi presentation but does not suit a floorstanding speaker. It combines an all-new Titanium Dome tweeter with the accuracy and transparency of the acclaimed Continuum cone, giving a serious left-and-right pair in a compact, flexible cabinet.
Design & build
The 606 S3 is a two-way vented-box design with a Decoupled Double Dome Titanium tweeter and Bowers & Wilkins’ Flowport venting. The cabinet is offered in Black, White and Oak, with grille colours matched to each finish. It is sized to sit on dedicated stands in a sitting room, study or compact media room, integrating cleanly without dominating the space. Stands are not included.
Sound & performance
As a two-way standmount the 606 S3 gives a full, articulate presentation for its size. Quoted frequency response is 52Hz–28kHz (±3dB), with a sensitivity of 88dB and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms (minimum 3.7 ohms). Harmonic distortion is low across the band, and the speaker provides genuine scale for everyday listening as well as smaller cinema systems.
Key features
The drive units are a 25mm (1-inch) Decoupled Double Dome Titanium tweeter and a 165mm (6.5-inch) Continuum-cone bass/midrange. Bowers & Wilkins recommend amplifiers of 30–120W into 8 ohms. It also works well in smaller cinema systems where the front three speakers are carefully matched, or as high-quality rear channels in a Bowers & Wilkins surround layout.
Technology
The move to a titanium dome improves resolution and refinement in the high frequencies, while decoupling the tweeter isolates it from cabinet vibration. The Continuum cone’s composite construction avoids the abrupt break-up behaviour of a conventional drive unit, for a cleaner, more natural midrange. Flowport venting reduces air turbulence for tidier bass.
Specifications
Type: two-way vented-box standmount loudspeaker. Drivers: 25mm Decoupled Double Dome Titanium tweeter, 165mm Continuum-cone bass/midrange. Frequency response: 52Hz–28kHz (±3dB). Sensitivity: 88dB. Nominal impedance: 8 ohms (min 3.7). Recommended power: 30–120W. Dimensions: 344 × 189 × 300 mm cabinet (H × W × D). Weight: 7.05 kg. Finishes: Black, White, Oak.
Who it’s for
The 606 S3 suits the room that can take a little more cabinet than the 607 S3 and wants a fuller presentation, while keeping placement flexible and visually light compared with a floorstander. It works as a two-channel pair, as carefully matched cinema fronts, or as quality surrounds in a 600 Series system.
