Description

Overview

The 607 S3 is the smallest model in the current Bowers & Wilkins 600 Series — a compact, two-way standmount that brings serious loudspeaker thinking to rooms where a floorstander would be too much. It is the speaker we reach for in a study, a snug or a media room, and it makes a natural surround channel where the front three are matched from the same 600 Series family.

Design & build

This is a two-way vented-box design housed in a neat cabinet finished in Black, White, Oak or Red Cherry. Bass loading is by the tuned Flowport, and the tweeter sits behind an acoustically transparent grille mesh. The cabinet measures 300 × 165 × 207 mm (H × W × D), rising to 235 mm deep with grille and terminals, and each speaker weighs 4.65 kg.

Sound & performance

Quoted frequency response is 52Hz–28kHz (±3dB from the reference axis), extending to 40Hz–33kHz at the −6dB points. Sensitivity is 84dB and nominal impedance 8 ohms, dropping to a 3.0-ohm minimum. The result is a speaker that sounds larger and more composed than its footprint suggests, provided it is partnered with capable amplification.

Key features

The drive complement is a 25mm decoupled Double Dome titanium tweeter above a 130mm Continuum cone that handles bass and midrange. Decoupling the tweeter from the cabinet keeps unwanted colouration away from the treble, while the Flowport manages port noise at the lower end.

Technology

The new titanium-dome tweeter combines a thin 25-micron main dome with a reinforced 30-micron ring for a smooth, extended top end. The Continuum cone — a composite drawn from the wider Bowers & Wilkins range — avoids the abrupt break-up of conventional cone materials, giving a clean, uncoloured midband.
