The EpicX ARAY Analogue is a stereo RCA interconnect from The Chord Company, the English cable specialist manufacturing by hand since 1985. It sits in the company’s Epic range and is a two-channel, RCA-to-RCA cable for connecting sources such as a DAC, streamer or CD player to an amplifier.
The cable is built around heavy-gauge, multi-strand, silver-plated oxygen-free copper conductors with the latest cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation. It is terminated with the company’s VEE 3 RCA plugs, finished in Chord’s ChorAlloy plating. Every EpicX ARAY is designed and hand-built in England.
The aim of the design is a quieter background and a clearer, more complete signal. Chord describes the ARAY geometry as carrying more detail and dynamics and better conveying the individual timbre of instruments, so recordings are reproduced with greater resolution and a more natural sense of tone.
At the heart of the cable is Chord’s ARAY conductor technology, a tuning approach based on the mechanical grounding of signal-carrying cables that is intended to reduce noise before it reaches the music. The ChorAlloy-plated VEE 3 connectors are chosen for low intermodulation and a tarnish-free, fully solderable contact.
The XLPE dielectric is a high-quality insulation used to preserve signal integrity, while the silver-plated oxygen-free copper conductors support wide bandwidth. Together with the ARAY geometry, these are intended to lower noise and let more of the recording through unaltered.
