Description
Overview
This is the Lyngdorf Cue-100 in black with an oak base — the most dramatic pairing in the range, dark and sculptural above, warm timber below. Beneath the design-object exterior (an iF Design Award winner in 2024) sits one of the most interesting compact high-end loudspeakers on the market.
Design & build
The triangular cabinet is machined from 35mm CNC-cut MDF in three tapered, gently rounded panels and braced internally — a geometry chosen because it presents no parallel internal surfaces for standing waves. The black finish reads as sculpture against light walls; the oak base keeps it domestic. Each speaker is 350 × 513 × 329mm and around 13.8kg, developed and manufactured in Denmark.
Sound & performance
Response spans 35Hz–22,000Hz (-3dB), sensitivity is 83dB (2.83V/1m) and the load is a nominal 4 ohms — a speaker that asks for a proper amplifier (Lyngdorf recommends 100W or more) and repays it with weight, precision and surprising scale.
Key features
An Air Motion Transformer tweeter — Kapton diaphragm, neodymium magnet — delivers low-distortion treble. The midrange and bass belong to a Purifi USHINDI 6.5-inch aluminium-cone driver, with two further 6.5-inch aluminium-cone passive radiators extending the bottom end in place of a reflex port.
Technology
The Purifi driver’s claim to fame is extraordinarily low distortion; the passive radiators tune the bass without port noise; the braced triangular enclosure suppresses the resonances a conventional box has to fight. Three deliberate engineering choices, one coherent speaker.
Personalisation
Cabinets come in black or white, bases in black, white or oak, and five optional Gabriel® fabric sleeves take the range to 24 combinations. This black-and-oak build is the connoisseur’s look; sleeves with oak tops are listed separately for a softer, textile finish.
Who it’s for
The buyer who wants a high-end loudspeaker that earns its place in a considered interior — and who can feed its appetite for current. It suits darker, richer rooms particularly well, and partners naturally with Lyngdorf amplification.
