Overview

Lyngdorf’s FR-1 packs the family’s full-range thinking into its most compact form: a two-way loudspeaker whose 8-inch passive radiator digs to 50Hz from a cabinet that lives happily on furniture or the wall. This is the matte black version with a black Gabriel® fabric cover — the stealth option.

Design & build

In matte black with its black fabric dress, the FR-1 recedes into shadow lines, shelving and dark walls. The cover is woven by Gabriel of Denmark — textile makers since 1851 — and the cabinet is ready for the wall, with mount placement options built in and M4 bushings prepared for alternative brackets.

Sound & performance

The numbers are unusually strong for the size: 50Hz–20,000Hz (-3dB), 89dB sensitivity (2.83V/1m), 4 ohms nominal and 100 watts power handling. In practice that means weight, ease and volume capability that embarrass most compact speakers.

Key features

The two-way driver set pairs a 1-inch textile soft-dome tweeter — PTC-protected against overload — with a 6.5-inch aluminium-cone midrange on a 35mm voice coil, crossing at 2.2kHz. The 8-inch passive radiator handles the deep stuff, portlessly.

Technology

Passive-radiator bass loading avoids the noise and compression of a small ported box, and the driver hardware is shared with Lyngdorf’s larger designs. Run it from a Lyngdorf amplifier with RoomPerfect™ and the room itself is corrected out of the result.
