Description
Description
Overview
The MA5300 is McIntosh‘s most compact solid-state integrated amplifier, in both power and physical size. It is the natural way into the brand for a smaller room, or a first serious system, without giving up the control, resolution and unmistakable presentation that define McIntosh. As an integrated amplifier it combines preamplifier, power amplifier and a capable digital stage in one chassis.
Design & build
The MA5300 carries the classic McIntosh aesthetic: a black glass front panel with aluminium end caps, illuminated logo and the dual-scale blue Watt meters that read output accurately into both 4 and 8 ohm loads. It is a direct-coupled design, and its McIntosh Monogrammed Heatsinks are tied to high-current output transistors that eliminate warm-up time, so it performs fully from the moment it is switched on.
Sound & performance
Output is a genuine 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms, rising to 160 watts into 4 ohms—ample to drive most real-world loudspeakers with authority. Protective technologies Power Guard and Sentry Monitor safeguard both amplifier and speakers, and bass and treble tone controls allow the balance to be tailored to the room and to taste.
Key features
The MA5300 offers twelve inputs: six analogue (four unbalanced, one balanced and one moving-magnet phono for turntables) and six digital, all housed in the DA1 Digital Audio Module. Two coaxial, two optical, one USB and one proprietary MCT input for McIntosh SACD/CD transports are provided. All inputs can be given friendly names, and the DA1 can be replaced as digital standards evolve.
Technology
The DA1 module carries an 8-channel, 32-bit digital-to-analogue converter run in Quad Balanced mode, supporting high-resolution playback up to DSD256 and DXD 384kHz. An optional dealer-installed upgrade to the DA2 module is available. A High Drive headphone amplifier with Headphone Crossfeed Director, Home Theater PassThru and gold-plated binding posts round out the specification, and the MA5300 is a certified Roon Tested device.
Specifications

Who it’s for
The MA5300 is for the listener who wants a genuine McIntosh at the heart of a smaller room or a first high-fidelity system—one box handling analogue sources, digital streaming and vinyl, with the reserves to grow. It pairs well with efficient, refined loudspeakers.
