Overview

The Olympica Nova CI is the dedicated centre-channel loudspeaker in Sonus Faber’s Olympica Nova range. Conceived to sit tonally alongside the range’s floorstanders and stand-mounts, it is a two-way design built to carry dialogue and on-screen detail with the same natural, unforced voice for which Sonus Faber is known — the anchor of a properly matched home cinema front stage.

Design & build

The cabinet follows the Olympica Nova aesthetic: hand-finished real wood on the front baffle and sides, wrapped around a rigid die-cast aluminium frame, with Italian leather encircling the woofers. It is a horizontally oriented centre designed to sit below or above a screen, and is offered in the range’s Walnut, Wenge and Black finishes so it can be matched to the room and to its partnering speakers.

Sound & performance

As a two-way centre the Olympica Nova CI is voiced for intelligibility and tonal continuity, so voices stay natural and clearly placed while effects pan seamlessly across to the left and right channels. The para-aperiodic vented loading is designed to give controlled, articulate low frequencies without the boom that can muddy speech in a home cinema.

Key features

The driver complement pairs a Sonus Faber DAD (Damped Apex Dome) tweeter — the H28 XTR3, a 28 mm soft dome on a neodymium motor system — with two 150 mm MW15 midwoofers using CCAW voice coils on an eddy-current-free former. It shares its tweeter design with the wider Olympica Nova family, which is what allows it to blend so cleanly with the other models in a multi-channel system.

Technology

The Damped Apex Dome tweeter uses a central damping element to control the dome’s break-up behaviour for a smooth, extended top end. The midwoofers use a natural-fibre membrane in keeping with Sonus Faber’s “Natural Sound” philosophy, housed in the “Stealth Ultraflex” vented cabinet that manages internal pressure and resonance.
