Description
Overview
The S90i is an in-wall subwoofer from Wisdom Audio for clients who want genuine full-depth bass but prefer it hidden. Rather than a large ported box, it uses Wisdom’s Regenerative Transmission Line loading to reach low frequencies from a slim cabinet that fits inside the wall, making it a natural low-frequency partner for the brand’s in-wall Sage loudspeakers in both music and cinema systems.
Design & build
The S90i is a wood-cabinet subwoofer built to occupy a full two-by-six-inch stud bay, and it can be mounted in a wall, ceiling, under risers or in the floor. It is offered in three versions to suit the finish: the S90i with an exposed grille, the S90 basic-port for hiding behind acoustically transparent fabric, and the S90-f/c, which lets the port be extended from an attic, crawl space or adjacent room.
Sound & performance
The S90i delivers a flat response to 20Hz with usable in-room energy down to around 17Hz, along with the dynamic capability and accurate timbre needed to keep up with Wisdom’s planar loudspeakers. Its quoted operating range is 20Hz–80Hz ±2dB relative to the target curve, with a maximum output of 123dB at 20Hz measured at one metre — serious low-end from an enclosure this slim.
Key features
Two custom high-output 5-by-7-inch woofers drive the transmission line; their effective radiating area is equivalent to a 12-to-13-inch woofer in a more conventional box, which is how the S90i achieves its output from a shallow in-wall footprint. The design prioritises quickness and low distortion as much as depth, so bass stays tuneful rather than merely loud.
Technology
The heart of the S90i is Wisdom’s Regenerative Transmission Line, which combines high sensitivity, high output and low distortion with uniform, extended response. Like the rest of the system it is actively driven: it requires DSP and one channel of power amplification per subwoofer, so its output is integrated and calibrated with the main loudspeakers rather than simply added underneath them.
Specifications
Type: in-wall Regenerative Transmission Line subwoofer. Drivers: two custom 5 × 7 in high-output woofers (radiating area equivalent to a 12–13 in woofer). Frequency response: 20Hz–80Hz ±2dB relative to target; usable to about 17Hz in room. Impedance: 4 ohms. Sensitivity: 93dB / 2.83V / 1m. Peak power handling: 1000W. Maximum SPL: 123dB / 20Hz / 1m. Cabinet: 90 × 14 × 5.5 in, fits a 2 × 6 in stud bay. Requires DSP and one channel of amplification per subwoofer. Three versions: S90i (grille), S90 basic-port, S90-f/c (extended port).
Who it’s for
The S90i suits a high-performance in-wall system — music or cinema — where the owner wants deep, articulate bass with no visible subwoofer. It is the logical low-frequency section for a Wisdom Sage installation, and equally at home reinforcing a dedicated theatre.
Why buy from Hidden Home Technology
An in-wall subwoofer has to be positioned, driven and calibrated correctly to disappear and still deliver. We install and calibrate Wisdom Audio subwoofers as part of complete systems across the South, integrating them with the main loudspeakers and the room.
