Sonus Faber has unveiled the Olympica G3, the third generation of one of the Italian marque’s most iconic loudspeaker collections. More than a decade after the original Olympica first appeared, this new generation reimagines the range for today’s discerning listeners — pairing timeless Italian craftsmanship with a meaningful step forward in acoustic engineering.
Like every Sonus Faber loudspeaker, the Olympica G3 is rooted in the cultural heritage of Vicenza. Its design draws inspiration from Andrea Palladio’s Teatro Olimpico — the Renaissance theatre that has lent the collection its name from the start — expressed in the asymmetrical lute-shaped cabinet, a 45-degree herringbone wood veneer that nods to the legendary Stradivari loudspeaker, and more substantial machined-aluminium detailing throughout.
Suprema engineering, room-friendly form
What sets this generation apart is what sits beneath the craftsmanship. At its heart is the Camelia midrange driver from the platform Sonus Faber developed for Suprema, its flagship statement loudspeaker — a driver whose camellia-flower-inspired geometry is designed to minimise unwanted resonance. In the Olympica G3 it arrives in an evolved implementation: a new honeycomb-structured Organic Basket chassis for better airflow and mechanical stability, an aluminium phase plug, and a damping-ring treatment to reduce air turbulence around the driver. The floorstanding models go further still, sealing the midrange and tweeter in cork-lined chambers to control internal resonance.
Across the range sits Sonus Faber’s 28 mm DAD Arrow Point silk-dome tweeter, and the collection spans five models: the Olympica I stand-mount, the Olympica III and Olympica V floorstanders, a dedicated centre channel and — for the first time in the collection — an on-wall model. That last pair matters more than it might seem: it makes the G3 a genuine option for high-end home cinema and media rooms, not just two-channel listening. US launch pricing runs from $8,000 to $30,000 a pair; UK pricing and finishes will be confirmed shortly.
Why this one matters to me
Dan Crick, founder: I’ve had a thing for Sonus Faber since the mid-nineties, seeing them in the magazines. They are a “grail” speaker to me. And what you get in the latest Olympica is a taste of the Suprema — to my reading of the engineering, actually a more advanced midrange implementation than the Suprema itself — for just about real-world money. I’m so excited to get a pair in on demonstration.
