What did AudioControl win at CEDIA in 2026?
The official CEDIA winners gallery lists both products under Best New Hardware Product in its 2026 Product Winners section. These are awards for AudioControl’s hardware, not an award for an HHT installation.
For us, the useful story is what the two products enable. Choosing electronics should start with the room, the speaker layout and how the household wants to use the system. APR-16 and Axis10 answer different versions of that brief; they are not interchangeable products with different channel counts.
APR-16: a foundation for a dedicated cinema
The AudioControl Hyperion APR-16 is a 16-channel immersive-audio preamplifier/processor with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support. Its 16 assignable output channels are available through balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA connections. Those are two connection formats for the channels, not 32 independently processed channels.
Seven HDMI inputs and an eARC-equipped main HDMI output provide a hub for sources and display audio. AudioControl specifies HDMI 2.1 support, including 4K at 120 Hz and 8K at 60 Hz, alongside Dirac room-correction capabilities. The relevant firmware and licence scope should be confirmed for the system being quoted.
Our recommendation is to consider APR-16 where a dedicated home cinema benefits from separate processing and amplification. That separation lets the amplifier package follow the loudspeakers and required playback levels. It also means an APR-16 quote must account for the amplifiers: this is not an all-in-one powered AV receiver.
The processor is only one part of the result. Speaker capability, subwoofer placement, room acoustics and calibration still determine whether the system delivers the intended experience at each seat.
Axis10: television sound without the usual equipment stack
The Hyperion Axis10 takes a different route. It accepts television audio over eARC and can distribute decoded Dolby Atmos or DTS-HD audio over a Dante/AES67 network. Compatible network audio endpoints and amplification then deliver sound to the loudspeakers.
The channel description deserves care. Axis10 provides up to eight surround-audio channels, supporting layouts such as 5.1.2 or 7.1, plus a simultaneous two-channel stereo downmix. Its “10-channel” name does not mean ten discrete immersive speaker channels.
HHT sees a strong application in a living room where the screen and décor should take priority over visible electronics, or where television audio needs to join a wider multi-room AV system. It can remove the need for a conventional receiver at the television position, but it does not remove the need for amplification, compatible equipment or a properly designed network.
The HHT view: choose the architecture, then the product
- For a dedicated cinema: assess APR-16 against the planned speaker layout, source requirements, amplification and calibration brief.
- For a discreet television system: assess Axis10 where eARC and networked audio can simplify the visible installation.
- For a whole-home project: agree how television sound, music, volume control and everyday operation fit together before specifying individual boxes.
