Overview

The Strato E is a compact 4K movie player from Kaleidescape — the entry point into the Kaleidescape ecosystem. It plays films downloaded from the Kaleidescape Movie Store at full reference quality rather than streaming them, and can operate as a self-contained player with onboard storage or as part of a larger system alongside a Terra Prime movie server.

Design & build

The Strato E is exceptionally compact and completely silent, with no internal fan — it measures just 6.4 × 1.1 × 6.4 inches (W × H × D) and weighs 1.6 lb (0.73kg). That makes it easy to place discreetly in a media room or cinema, and its silent operation means nothing intrudes on quiet passages.

Picture & sound

Video is delivered in 4K with Dolby Vision, HDR10 and SDR, drawn from Kaleidescape’s high-bitrate masters rather than a compressed stream, with resolutions up to 2160p60 and high-quality upscaling of HD and SD content. Audio is carried losslessly over HDMI — Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio — so object-based, theatre-grade soundtracks are reproduced exactly as mastered.

The Strato E includes 480GB of onboard solid-state storage, holding roughly six high-bitrate titles when used standalone. Grouped with a Terra Prime server it draws on a much larger library, and gains the full Kaleidescape interface and parental controls — so it works equally well as a compact single-room player or as an additional endpoint in a whole-home system.
