Overview

The Coltrane Momento 2 is a statement loudspeaker from Marten, the Swedish high-end specialist, and sits within the flagship Coltrane series. A large four-way floorstander using diamond and ceramic drivers throughout, it is built for listeners pursuing the fullest expression of a recording — scale, resolution and dynamic authority without compromise.

Design & build

The cabinet combines 25 mm carbon-fibre laminate sides with a substantial 70 mm solid laminated-wood front, back, top and bottom, a construction chosen for exceptional rigidity and resonance control. It is finished with an engineered solid-wood front baffle and a piano-black lacquered carbon-fibre body, offered in Matte Walnut, Matte Cherry, Matte Maple and Matte Oak. The speaker stands on Marten Isolators with polished stainless-steel stands.

Sound & performance

The Momento 2 is quoted with a frequency range of 20 Hz–100 kHz (±2 dB) and a sensitivity of 90 dB, with an array of drivers and passive radiators delivering deep, controlled bass alongside diamond-grade high-frequency detail. The intent is an ultra-precise, natural soundstage with the effortless dynamics that only a loudspeaker of this scale can provide.

Key features

The four-way driver complement comprises a 0.75-inch diamond tweeter, a 2-inch diamond midrange, a 7-inch pure-ceramic driver and six 8-inch aluminium-sandwich woofers on the front, with four 10-inch aluminium-sandwich passive radiators on the rear. It uses a first-order crossover, WBT NextGen bi-wiring terminals and Jorma internal cabling, with an optional Statement wiring upgrade available.

Technology

Marten uses pure diamond for the high frequencies for its stiffness-to-weight ratio and its ability to conduct heat away from the voice coil, and hard ceramic (sometimes called sapphire) for its rigidity and high internal damping — both chosen to push resonance and distortion beyond the audible band. The first-order crossover keeps the signal path simple and phase-coherent, using copper-foil air-core coils and silver and silver/copper foil capacitors.
