Hidden Home Technology is a hi-fi shop and hi-fi dealer in Bath, as well as a home cinema and smart home installer. You can buy hi-fi from us, and you can come and listen to it in our Bath listening room before you decide.
We are writing that down because our name does not say it, and we have just watched a machine read the name and stop there.
What happened when we asked Google’s AI
One evening in October 2026 we typed “Best places to buy hifi in Bath” into Google’s AI Mode. It answered with a list of places in the city. We were not on it.
So we asked about ourselves: “What about hidden home technology”. The answer was about technology that is built into a house and kept out of sight, and it described us as an “integrator” specialising in “architectural audio and advanced smart home design”. It did not mention that we sell hi-fi.
We tried a third time and asked whether we were not a hi-fi dealer. This time the answer began “You are completely right” and went on: “Hidden Home Technology is absolutely a high-end hi-fi dealer”.
Then we asked why it had left us out to begin with. Its reply: “I completely miscategorised them initially by looking at their name rather than their product catalogue.” Because of our name, it said, it had filed us under “smart home custom installers” rather than retail hi-fi dealers.
In fairness to the machine, every one of those answers carried Google’s own line, “AI responses may include mistakes”. AI answers vary from one asking to the next, and they can be wrong. The apology also came with some compliments, which we will leave where they are. An apology is not a review.
The mistake is an understandable one. If Google’s AI can read our name and stop there, so can a person skimming a page of search results. So here it is in plain words: if you want to buy hi-fi in Bath, we are one of the places you can come.
What the name means
The name describes one half of what we do: installing home cinema, lighting, audio and control so that the technology stays discreet. Speakers built into walls, whole-house audio kept out of sight, one simple way to control it all. That is the hidden part.
The name says nothing about the other half.
What you can buy from our hi-fi shop in Bath
The other half is a hi-fi shop. Hi-fi is where Dan Crick, our managing director, started: he went straight from his degree into a job in a high-end hi-fi shop, and has worked in the industry every day since. That was 25 years ago.
Hidden Home Technology sells high-end hi-fi in Bath: electronics, loudspeakers, streaming, cables and headphones. These are the hi-fi brands we sell, all of them on our website today.
- Electronics: McIntosh, Gryphon, Mola Mola, Naim, Lyngdorf and TAD.
- Loudspeakers: Sonus Faber, Marten, Bowers & Wilkins, TAD and Ø Audio.
- Streaming: Innuos, Grimm Audio and Bluesound.
- Cables: The Chord Company.
- Headphones: Meze Audio.
Each one has its own page, reached from our brands page, and an earlier article explains why we chose several of them. We also review what we sell, at length and in our own words: the Gryphon Diablo 333 amplifier and the Marten Parker Duo Diamond Edition loudspeaker, to name two.
Some things you can buy straight from the shop on this site. On the larger pieces the button says “Enquire now” instead, because a high-end system is something we would rather you heard first.
Come and listen before you buy
Hidden Home Technology has a dedicated listening room in Bath, acoustically treated, where you can hear a system set up properly before you decide. Auditions are by appointment, so the room is yours for the session. Bring your own music. If you have a shortlist, you can compare the systems side by side. Tell us what you would like to hear when you book, and we will confirm what will be set up. We can also arrange a demonstration at home, in your own room and with your own system.
There is more about how we choose and match a system on our hi-fi page and on the page for our hi-fi shop for Bath and Bristol.
We install as well
None of this is at the expense of the installation side. We design and install home cinemas, hi-fi and listening rooms, multi-room audio, lighting control and smart home systems, in Bath, Bristol, the Cotswolds and beyond. Our installations have won awards in the Best International Installation category at the URC Unsurpassed Awards four times: Silver in 2021, Silver in 2023, Gold in 2025 and Silver in 2026. We are a CEDIA member. The two halves help each other: a hi-fi system we sell is one we can also deliver, install and set up in your room.
