Grimm Audio SB1 Motional Feedback Subwoofer

Description

The Grimm Audio SB1 uses a sensor on the woofer to monitor cone movement and apply corrective feedback. It is designed to extend bass while reducing driver distortion, rather than treating bass performance as a matter of amplifier power alone.

What Digital Motional Feedback does

Grimm combines cone-motion sensing, digital processing and current drive, claiming up to 30dB less distortion for the woofer. That figure is a manufacturer technology claim, not a promise of 30dB better room acoustics. Speaker placement and room behaviour still need attention.

With LS1 or another system

Within a compatible LS1 setup, the phase-corrected 70Hz crossover is handled by the main system. Grimm lists response to 20Hz and a 500W Class D amplifier. A dedicated switch permits use without LS1, but the source connection, crossover and level settings must still suit the third-party system.

Which Grimm bass option?

SB1 can partner the LS1v2, LS1be and LS1a. Compare the LS1s pair for the alternative without SB1’s Digital Motional Feedback. Do not assume a single SB1 replaces a specified stereo pair.
