The Mini Terra Prime is a compact movie server from Kaleidescape, the reference home-cinema source brand. In an 8TB configuration it stores a substantial library of high-bitrate films and serves them across the network to Kaleidescape Strato players, forming the storage heart of a whole-home Kaleidescape system.
The Mini Terra Prime is remarkably small: 6.4 inches square and just 1.1 inches tall, weighing only 1.7lb. It is convection-cooled with no internal fan, so it runs silently and can be sited discreetly (it needs a minimum 0.25-inch clearance on top for airflow). Storage is 8TB, provided as two 4TB solid-state drives.
The 8TB server holds approximately 125 high-bitrate 4K films — or around 216 HD or 1,200 SD titles. Films download quickly: as little as four minutes each over a 2.5-gigabit Ethernet connection. Because playback is from local storage at full reference quality, it is free of the compromises of streaming.
The Mini Terra Prime serves simultaneous playback of high-bitrate 4K films to as many as 25 network-connected Strato players, so a single server can feed multiple rooms at once. When more capacity is needed, up to four servers can be grouped together to expand a system’s storage.
The server connects over Ethernet — 2.5 gigabit recommended, 1 gigabit minimum — and works alongside Kaleidescape Strato players, which handle playback to each display. Solid-state storage keeps the unit silent and reliable, and the whole Kaleidescape platform integrates cleanly with the major control systems for one-touch operation.
