TAD’s Evolution Two is a compact floorstander built around a beryllium tweeter and Aramid-composite bass drivers, delivering wide-bandwidth, high-resolution sound from a slim cabinet finished in real walnut.
Description
Description
Overview
The E2 Evolution Two is a floorstanding loudspeaker from TAD (Technical Audio Devices), the high-end division founded on decades of professional and studio engineering. It brings much of TAD’s flagship thinking — notably its coincident driver philosophy and precision cabinet work — into a comparatively slim, room-friendly floorstander. This example is finished in walnut veneer.
Design & build
The cabinet measures 320 × 1,085 mm (1,113 mm on its spikes) × 405 mm (W × H × D), giving a small footprint that suits real rooms. A 10 mm-thick solid-steel base plate is fixed to the underside to reinforce the structure around the port. The real-walnut finish gives the E2 a warm, natural appearance in keeping with its price.
Sound & performance
The Evolution Two is a 2.5-way design quoted with a frequency response of 30Hz–60kHz, a sensitivity of 87dB (2.83V/1m) and a 6-ohm rated impedance, handling up to 150W. That bandwidth — deep bass to well beyond audibility — underpins the openness and detail for which TAD is known, from a cabinet that belies its physical size.
Key features
A 25 mm beryllium-diaphragm tweeter handles the mid-to-high range with speed and refinement, working alongside redesigned Aramid-composite woofers, with crossover points at 90Hz and 2,800Hz. The bass is loaded by a bottom-mounted port with openings to both front and rear, which effectively enlarges the port area so air moves more slowly — aiding a clean, low-noise low end.
Technology
Beryllium is prized for tweeters because its stiffness-to-mass ratio pushes break-up modes well beyond the audible band, allowing an extended, low-distortion treble. TAD pairs this with Aramid-composite bass cones and a carefully engineered port structure, reinforced by the steel base plate, to keep resonance and turbulence low across the range.
