Description
Overview
The Kula is the integrated amplifier from Dutch high-end specialist Mola Mola, the brand built around the work of acclaimed engineer Bruno Putzeys. It distils the company’s separate components — the Makua preamplifier line stage, an in-house power amplifier and an optional Tambaqui-grade DAC — into a single, modular chassis, offering reference-class electronics in one box.
Design & build
The Kula is unmistakably Mola Mola: a full-width unit of around 420mm with the brand’s distinctive concave front panel and gently waved top. The casework is precise and restrained, and at roughly 11kg the amplifier is compact for its capability, suiting rooms where a rack of separates would be unwelcome.
Sound & performance
Power is delivered by a Class D output stage using Putzeys’ Ncore technology, rated at 150W into 8 ohms and doubling to 300W into 4 ohms. That combination of high power and the very low noise and distortion for which Ncore is known gives the Kula a firm grip on demanding loudspeakers, with a clean, controlled and transparent presentation.
Key features
The Kula is modular by design. It offers six line inputs as standard — three on RCA and three on XLR, selectable from the rear — with two optional modules: a DAC drawn from the standalone Tambaqui, and an MM/MC phono stage. Both can be specified at purchase or added later, so the amplifier can grow with a system.
Technology
The optional DAC module mirrors Mola Mola’s Tambaqui converter: a Roon-ready Ethernet streaming input that decodes high-resolution PCM and up to Quad DSD. The optional phono stage handles both moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges, with gain, loading and equalisation set through the Mola Mola app. Day-to-day control is by app or a simple handset.
Specifications
Type: modular integrated amplifier. Output: 150W into 8 ohms, 300W into 4 ohms (Ncore Class D). Analogue inputs: six line (3 × RCA, 3 × XLR). Optional modules: Tambaqui-grade DAC (Roon-ready, high-resolution PCM and Quad DSD); MM/MC phono stage. Control: Mola Mola app and handset. Width: approximately 420mm. Weight: approximately 11kg.
Who it’s for
The Kula suits the listener who wants genuine high-end electronics without a full rack of separates — and the flexibility to start with the amplifier alone and add digital and phono stages as needs change. It pairs naturally with revealing, full-range loudspeakers.
Why buy from Hidden Home Technology
