TAD’s Grand Evolution One is a three-way reference floorstander built around the company’s beryllium CST coaxial driver and twin 18cm woofers, hand-finished to the standard the name implies.
The Grand Evolution One (TAD-GE1) is a three-way, bass-reflex floorstanding loudspeaker from TAD — Technical Audio Devices — the Japanese high-end brand with roots in professional monitoring. It brings TAD’s signature Coherent Source Transducer and beryllium driver technology into a full-range floorstander engineered for accuracy, coherence and scale.
The GE1 is built to reference standards, with a mirror-finished enclosure over a real-wood grain and a substantial 15mm aluminium base plate. TAD’s ISO Drive Technology isolates the drivers from the cabinet to reduce unwanted vibration, and bass is loaded through the Bidirectional ADP (Aero-Dynamic Port) System. Each cabinet weighs 64kg, reflecting the density and rigidity of the construction.
As a three-way design the GE1 divides its work across dedicated drivers, giving a coherent, low-coloration presentation with genuine bandwidth: quoted frequency response is 27Hz–100kHz. Sensitivity is 88dB (2.83V, 1m) into a 4-ohm nominal impedance, with a maximum input of 250W — well suited to high-quality amplification in a serious two-channel system.
At the centre is TAD’s CST driver: a 3.5cm (1 3/8 in) beryllium dome tweeter mounted concentrically within a 14cm (5 1/2 in) magnesium midrange cone, so treble and midrange radiate from a single point. Below it sit two 18cm (7 1/16 in) woofers using TAD’s five-layer MACS II diaphragm for stiffness and low distortion. Crossover points are 250Hz and 1.8kHz.
The Coherent Source Transducer is TAD’s answer to time and phase coherence, aligning the tweeter and midrange acoustically at a single point for a stable, precise image. The beryllium dome, produced by TAD’s vapour-deposition process, extends response to 100kHz, while the magnesium midrange cone and MACS II woofer diaphragms keep the moving parts light and rigid. ISO Drive and the aluminium base plate address cabinet and floor coupling.
