Ø Audio Frigg 02

Description

The Frigg 02 is the first rung of the Ø Audio range and an unusually accomplished one. It is a slim three-way floorstander designed for serious domestic listening rooms where a full-scale flagship would be physically out of place. Ø Audio’s brief was to retain the engineering discipline of the larger models — even directivity, low distortion, faithful tonality — in a cabinet small enough to live with.

Drivers

A DXT horn-loaded carbon-fibre dome tweeter (29mm TPCD on a titanium former) handles the top end, sitting above a 180mm hand-coated paper-cone midrange and a 220mm hand-coated paper-cone woofer. Both lower drivers also use titanium formers. The DXT waveguide is the same approach Ø Audio takes across the range — controlled directivity that keeps the off-axis response coherent with the on-axis, which in a real room means imaging that doesn’t collapse when you move on the sofa.

Frequency response and efficiency

29 Hz – 30 kHz. 90 dB sensitivity. 8 Ω nominal, 5 Ω minimum. The Frigg 02 will play loud and clean on modest amplification, and it scales convincingly with a good 50–150 W per channel power amp.

Cabinet and bass loading

Bottom-ported bass reflex. 98.5 × 21 × 34 cm including the integrated plinth (37cm wide at the feet). 30 kg each — heavy enough to behave, slim enough to suit a real domestic room. The cabinets are internally braced; the finish is hand-applied.

Finishes

Four standard finishes: Dark Nordic Oak, Light Nordic Oak, Arctic White Matt, Fenrir Black Matt.

Why we picked it up

The Frigg 02 brings something new to our hi-fi shelf — a compact 3-way that has the dynamic ease of a much larger speaker without occupying the floor of a much larger speaker. Stereo Times, Hifi Knights and PL Audio have all run with the same observation: it delivers far more than its size suggests.
