Description
Description
Overview
The 803 D4 is often the point in the Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series Diamond where a serious listening room and a high-grade cinema begin to meet. It is the most compact model in the range to keep the dedicated Turbine Head midrange enclosure, so it offers much of the character of the larger models in a floorstander that is easier to accommodate.
Design & build
The 803 D4 pairs a Reverse Wrap Matrix cabinet with the aluminium Turbine Head, mounting the midrange in its own stiff, damped enclosure isolated from the bass. It stands 1165mm tall, 357mm wide and 511mm deep and weighs 62.15 kg. Finishes are Gloss Black, White, Satin Rosenut and Satin Walnut.
Sound & performance
Quoted frequency response is 19Hz–28kHz (±3dB from the reference axis), with 90dB sensitivity and a nominal 8-ohm impedance falling to a 3.0-ohm minimum. Recommended amplifier power runs from 50W to 500W, so it responds to amplification with genuine control and current rather than headline wattage.
Key features
The drive complement is a 25mm diamond-dome tweeter, a 130mm Continuum FST midrange and two 180mm Aerofoil bass cones. The Turbine Head keeps the midrange free of the bass enclosure’s energy, while Biomimetic Suspension replaces the conventional spider behind the midrange cone.
Technology
The diamond dome remains free of break-up well beyond audibility, and the Continuum FST cone avoids the abrupt break-up of conventional materials for a clean midband. Aerofoil bass cones vary in thickness across their profile for stiffness without excess mass, and Matrix bracing keeps the cabinet inert.
Specifications
Type: three-way vented-box floorstander. Drive units: 25mm diamond tweeter, 130mm Continuum FST midrange, 2 × 180mm Aerofoil bass. Frequency response: 19Hz–28kHz (±3dB). Sensitivity: 90dB. Nominal impedance: 8 ohms (minimum 3.0 ohms). Recommended power: 50–500W into 8 ohms. Dimensions: 1165 × 357 × 511 mm. Weight: 62.15 kg. Finishes: Gloss Black, White, Satin Rosenut, Satin Walnut.
Who it’s for
The 803 D4 suits a larger living room or dedicated music space, or the front left and right of a cinema needing proper scale without moving to the presence of the 802 D4 or 801 D4. It rewards clean, capable amplification and careful placement. Pricing is on application.
Why buy from Hidden Home Technology
