Ø Audio Verdande

Description

The Verdande is Ø Audio’s statement loudspeaker. The chassis carries a 15-inch ultra-linear long-stroke woofer and the largest implementation of Q.V.S.T. horn-loading outside the Ymir flagship. The brief was to combine the dynamic capability of a properly large driver with the imaging discipline of a much smaller speaker, and to do it in a cabinet that earns its visual weight rather than hides it.

Horn and drivers

A scaled-up Quad Vertex Sound Field horn — the same constant-directivity geometry as the Icon 12, but larger, loading a larger compression driver. The 15-inch woofer is an ultra-linear extended-range unit, motor-engineered for low distortion at high excursion. The crossover preserves the horn’s efficiency advantage rather than padding it down to match the woofer.

Frequency response and efficiency

26 Hz – 20 kHz. 94 dB sensitivity. 8 Ω nominal. The Verdande is efficient enough to use single-ended valve amplification convincingly and capable enough to handle the cleanest 500 W solid-state without complaint.

Cabinet and feet

115 × 50 × 59.3 cm. 100 kg per cabinet. Polished stainless-steel outrigger feet with tungsten resonance damping inserts — the feet are part of the engineering, not the cosmetic package. Cabinet construction is internally braced; finish is hand-applied.

Finishes

Two standard finishes: Piano Walnut and Piano Black.

Editorial reception

Twittering Machines (Michael Lavorgna) and Stereophile have both covered the Verdande. The consistent observation is the rare combination of horn efficiency with conventional-speaker tonal manners.
