Overview
The Lumina V Amator is the flagship floorstander of Sonus Faber’s Lumina range, refined with engineering and finishing drawn from the company’s more senior collections. A three-way, vented-box design, it inherits crossover thinking from the development of the new Homage collection — bringing a measure of Amati and Guarneri G5 know-how to a more attainable loudspeaker.
Design & build
The cabinet is finished in high-gloss multilayer wood paired with black leather, in the Amator tradition, and offered in Red, Wenge and Walnut. The veneer is applied to the front baffle in two 45°-cut pieces under multiple layers of high-gloss lacquer — the hand craftsmanship that distinguishes the Amator name within the Lumina line.
Sound & performance
As a three-way floorstander, the Lumina V Amator uses dedicated drivers across the range for an open midband and controlled, extended bass. Quoted frequency response is 38Hz–24kHz, with sensitivity of 89dB SPL (2.83V/1m) and a 4-ohm nominal impedance. Suggested amplification is 50–300W of undistorted power, making it comfortable with a wide range of quality electronics.
Key features
The driver array comprises a 29mm DAD high-definition tweeter, a 150mm paper-cone midrange and two 165mm sandwich-diaphragm woofers. The crossover has been raised to 260Hz and 2.85kHz — a 250Hz shift over the standard Lumina V — using the Hybrid IFF-Paracross topology with Hi-Fi-grade components.
Technology
The 29mm DAD (Damped Apex Dome) tweeter uses a visco-elastically decoupled, ferrite soft-dome design for low distortion. The revised Hybrid IFF-Paracross crossover, inherited from the Homage development programme, improves driver integration, while the sandwich-diaphragm woofers combine stiffness with damping for a clean, controlled low end.

Who it’s for
The Lumina V Amator suits the listener who wants a genuine Sonus Faber floorstander — scale, refinement and the hand-finished Amator aesthetic — in a medium-to-large room, at a more accessible point in the range than the Homage or Reference collections.
