Description
Description
Overview
The Olympica I is the bookshelf model of the Sonus Faber Olympica Collection, now in its third generation (Olympica G3). Sonus faber designed it for more intimate listening spaces, and it takes the place of the Olympica Nova I in the range.
Design & build
It keeps the lute-shaped cabinet of the larger models, in hand-finished walnut or wenge with solid aluminium details and leather. Sonus faber makes a matching Olympica stand for it, sold separately; the pictures show the speakers on those stands.
Key features
A 28 mm DAD Arrow Point extended-frequency silk tweeter works with a 165 mm paper-cone mid-woofer with a copper cap, in a vented cabinet, crossing over at 2,300 Hz. The collection brings in technology derived from Suprema, Sonus faber’s flagship loudspeaker. Four binding posts are split Hi and Mid-Low.

Who it’s for
The Olympica I is for a smaller room, or for the listener who wants the Olympica look and build without a floorstander. We think of Sonus faber as a beautiful, easy-to-live-with all-rounder, built to a high standard with great heritage behind it.
What we would pair it with
Sonus faber recommends 30 to 250 watts. We would look first at the McIntosh MA5300 or the McIntosh MA252. Where the room is difficult, a Lyngdorf TDAI-2210 with RoomPerfect correction is worth hearing.
Room and setup notes
A bookshelf speaker of this quality deserves proper stands rather than a shelf. We set the height and the toe-in in the room the speakers will live in.
Also worth considering
The Olympica III and Olympica V are the floorstanders of the same collection. For a cinema, the Olympica Center and the on-wall Olympica Wall complete the set. Read our piece on the new Olympica G3, and see the full range on our Sonus Faber page.
