Description
Description
Overview
The Olympica III is the slimmer of the two floorstanders in the Sonus Faber Olympica Collection, now in its third generation (Olympica G3). It is a three-way design with two woofers, and it takes the place of the Olympica Nova III in the range.
Design & build
Like the rest of the collection it keeps the asymmetrical lute-shaped cabinet, in hand-finished walnut or wenge, with solid aluminium details and leather. Each speaker stands 1,104 mm tall and weighs 35 kg, a smaller footprint than the flagship Olympica V.
Key features
A 28 mm DAD Arrow Point extended-frequency silk tweeter sits above a 165 mm Camelia paper-cone midrange in a sealed cork enclosure of its own, with two 165 mm paper-cone woofers in a vented box below. The collection brings in technology derived from Suprema, Sonus faber’s flagship loudspeaker. Four binding posts are split Mid-Hi and Low.

Who it’s for
The Olympica III suits most real sitting rooms better than the larger V, and it is the more natural choice where the speakers have to live with the furniture. We think of Sonus faber as a beautiful, easy-to-live-with all-rounder, built to a high standard with great heritage behind it.
What we would pair it with
Sonus faber recommends 50 to 300 watts. We would look first at the McIntosh MA352 or the Gryphon Diablo 333. Where the room is difficult, a Lyngdorf TDAI-3400 with RoomPerfect correction is worth hearing.
Room and setup notes
At 35 kg a speaker the Olympica III is a two-person lift. We survey the route in before delivery and set the speakers up in the room they will live in.
Also worth considering
The Olympica V is the larger flagship of the collection and the Olympica I its bookshelf model. For a cinema, the Olympica Center and the on-wall Olympica Wall complete the set. Read our piece on the new Olympica G3, and see the full range on our Sonus Faber page.
