Description
Overview
The Olympica V is the flagship of the Sonus Faber Olympica Collection, now in its third generation (Olympica G3). It is a three-way floorstander with three woofers, and it takes the place of the Olympica Nova V in the range. Sonus faber calls it “a true expression” of its Natural Sound signature.
Design & build
The cabinet keeps the asymmetrical lute shape that has defined Olympica from the start. The front baffle and the sides are hand-finished natural wood, in walnut or wenge, set against grey matte sandblasted metal parts, solid aluminium and leather. Each speaker stands 1,174 mm tall and weighs 44 kg.
Key features
A 28 mm DAD Arrow Point extended-frequency silk tweeter sits above a 165 mm Camelia paper-cone midrange, which has a sealed cork enclosure of its own, with three 165 mm paper-cone woofers in a vented box below. The collection brings in technology derived from Suprema, Sonus faber’s flagship loudspeaker. Four binding posts are split Mid-Hi and Low.

Who it’s for
The Olympica V is for a larger living room or a dedicated listening room, where a full-size floorstander has the space it needs, and for the listener who wants the top of the Olympica range. We think of Sonus faber as a beautiful, easy-to-live-with all-rounder, built to a high standard with great heritage behind it. With a matching centre and an on-wall model now in the collection, it also makes the left and right of a home cinema.
What we would pair it with
Sonus faber recommends 50 to 400 watts. We would look first at the McIntosh MA9500 or the Gryphon Diablo 333. Where the room is difficult, a Lyngdorf TDAI-3400 with RoomPerfect correction is worth hearing.
Room and setup notes
At 44 kg a speaker and 1,174 mm tall, the Olympica V wants a firm floor and two people to place it. We survey the route in before delivery and set the speakers up in the room they will live in.
Also worth considering
The Olympica III is the slimmer floorstander in the same collection and the Olympica I its bookshelf model. For a cinema, the Olympica Center and the on-wall Olympica Wall complete the set. Read our piece on the new Olympica G3, and see the full range on our Sonus Faber page.
