The 360-degree Pulse

The Bluesound PULSE M is the mid-size speaker in the Bluesound range, and the one designed to sound right from almost any angle. Its Omni-Hybrid driver arrangement puts a 133mm woofer firing upwards under an acoustic reflector, with two 19mm tweeters angled 45 degrees apart, so the sound spreads around the room rather than beaming forward. 80W of Smart DSP amplification. Full BluOS streaming.

Omni-Hybrid driver

One up-firing 5.25-inch (133mm) woofer and two 0.75-inch (19mm) tweeters mounted 45 degrees apart. A custom acoustic reflector above the woofer diffuses unwanted artefacts and directs the higher frequencies out and away from the cabinet. Behind them, a Smart DSP amplifier rated at 80W total system power (50W to the woofer, 15W to each tweeter) monitors bandwidth, dynamic range and distortion in real time. Frequency response 60Hz–20kHz ±1.5dB.

Wall, stand or shelf

The elliptical cabinet and fabric grille keep the footprint small. Put it on a shelf or sideboard, or wall-mount it with Bluesound’s optional WM231 bracket (the PULSE M wall mount, sold separately), which swivels so the speaker can be angled and locked in position. Bluesound also make the FS230 adjustable floor stand for it.

Stereo pairs and surround duty

Pair two PULSE M in the BluOS app for a wide two-channel image that holds up off-axis. Or use a pair as wireless rear channels with a PULSE CINEMA or PULSE CINEMA MINI soundbar, add a PULSE SUB+ wirelessly, and you have a full BluOS home-theatre group with no speaker cable to the back of the room.

Inputs and connections

Gigabit Ethernet and dual-band Wi-Fi 5. Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD. A combined mini-Toslink optical / 3.5mm analogue input, a USB-A port for a stick of music (FAT32), a 3.5mm headphone output and a wireless subwoofer output to the PULSE SUB+. Front IR sensor with remote learning, so an existing handset can drive it.

Controls

A proximity-sensing touch panel on the top wakes as your hand approaches: play/pause, a volume slider, track skip and five preset buttons for stations, playlists or services. There are no microphones in the PULSE M; voice control is through Amazon Alexa skills and Siri on your own devices.

BluOS streaming

The same BluOS platform as every other Bluesound product: 23+ music services and internet radio in the BluOS Controller app, plus AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect and Roon Ready. Hi-res playback up to 24-bit/192kHz including MQA. Drivers for Control4, Crestron, RTI, ELAN, URC, Lutron and Josh.ai.

Where it fits

Kitchens, open-plan living areas and rooms where people move around rather than sit in one spot: that is what the omni-directional design is for. It sits between the compact PULSE FLEX and the larger PULSE MINI and PULSE, which are the better choice where a single speaker has to fill a big room from one end.
