Bowers & Wilkins – 802 D4 – Floorstanding Speaker
£27,000.00
Sitting just below the reference 801 D4, the 802 D4 brings the same Turbine Head midrange, diamond-dome tweeter and Aerofoil bass technology to a large three-way floorstander for serious music and cinema systems. Supplied and priced per pair.
Description
Description
Overview
The 802 D4 is the second model in the Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series Diamond — the point where a serious two-channel system and a no-compromise cinema front stage overlap naturally. In a large listening room or dedicated cinema we would typically use it as the main left and right, partnered with electronics that offer proper current delivery and a clean preamp stage.
Design & build
The 802 D4 carries the aluminium Turbine Head over a Matrix-braced cabinet with a solid-body Tweeter-on-Top and Flowport bass loading. It stands 1218mm tall, 413mm wide and 602mm deep, and weighs 88.1 kg, so it needs room to breathe and firm placement. Finishes are Gloss Black, White, Satin Rosenut and Satin Walnut.
Sound & performance
Quoted frequency response is 17Hz–28kHz (±3dB from the reference axis), with 90dB sensitivity and a nominal 8-ohm impedance falling to a 3.0-ohm minimum. Recommended amplifier power runs from 50W to 500W, so it rewards substantial, clean amplification over quoted wattage alone.
Key features
The drive complement is a 25mm diamond-dome tweeter, a 150mm Continuum FST midrange and two 200mm Aerofoil bass cones. The Turbine Head isolates the midrange from the bass enclosure, and Biomimetic Suspension replaces the conventional midrange spider for a cleaner, less coloured midband.
Technology
The diamond dome resists break-up far beyond the audible band, while the Continuum FST cone avoids the abrupt break-up of conventional materials. The Aerofoil bass cones vary in thickness across their profile for stiffness without excess mass, and an anti-resonance plug and Matrix bracing keep the cabinet inert.
Specifications
Type: three-way vented-box floorstander. Drive units: 25mm diamond tweeter, 150mm Continuum FST midrange, 2 × 200mm Aerofoil bass. Frequency response: 17Hz–28kHz (±3dB). Sensitivity: 90dB. Nominal impedance: 8 ohms (minimum 3.0 ohms). Recommended power: 50–500W into 8 ohms. Dimensions: 1218 × 413 × 602 mm. Weight: 88.1 kg. Finishes: Gloss Black, White, Satin Rosenut, Satin Walnut.
Who it’s for
The 802 D4 suits a larger music room or dedicated cinema where the main speakers must carry both two-channel music and a film front stage with authority. It works best where the centre and surrounds are matched from the same family. Pricing is on application.
Why buy from Hidden Home Technology
A speaker of this calibre is sensitive to placement and partnering. We can demonstrate the 802 D4, advise on amplification and room integration, and handle delivery and installation across the South. Speak to our team to arrange a listen or discuss your project.
