Description
Description
Overview
The 804 D4 is the 800 Series Diamond floorstander we look to when a room deserves a serious stereo loudspeaker but not the visual or spatial commitment of the larger models. It gives a refined route into Bowers & Wilkins‘ flagship thinking while remaining practical to place and live with, in a living room, an open-plan space or a cinema front stage that must also carry music.
Design & build
The 804 D4 uses a Reverse Wrap cabinet on an aluminium plinth, with the solid-body Tweeter-on-Top mounting the diamond tweeter above the cabinet and Flowport bass loading. It stands 1071mm tall, 306mm wide and 391mm deep and weighs 36.85 kg — the most manageable of the 800 Series floorstanders. Finishes are Gloss Black, White, Satin Rosenut and Satin Walnut.
Sound & performance
Quoted frequency response is 24Hz–28kHz (±3dB from the reference axis), with 89dB sensitivity and a nominal 8-ohm impedance falling to a 3.0-ohm minimum. Recommended amplifier power runs from 50W to 200W, so it pairs well with firm, clean amplification rather than simply more wattage on paper.
Key features
The drive complement is a 25mm diamond-dome tweeter, a 130mm Continuum FST midrange and two 165mm Aerofoil bass cones. Mounting the tweeter in its own solid body removes it from the main cabinet, while Biomimetic Suspension replaces the conventional spider behind the midrange cone.
Technology
The diamond dome resists break-up far beyond the audible band, and the Continuum FST cone avoids the abrupt break-up of conventional materials for a clean, open midband. The Aerofoil bass cones vary in thickness for stiffness without excess mass, and Matrix bracing keeps the cabinet inert.
