Overview

The Sonetto V is the larger floorstanding model in Sonus Faber’s second-generation (G2) Sonetto range. A three-way design, it carries engineering inspired by the flagship Suprema into a more attainable loudspeaker, aimed at listeners who want genuine scale and bass authority alongside the natural, musical voicing for which Sonus Faber is known.

Design & build

Hand-finished in Italy, the cabinet follows Sonus Faber’s signature lute-shaped form, which helps control internal resonances. It is offered in three finishes — Walnut, Wenge and Black Gloss — with real-wood veneers on the wood options. Bass loading is by a reflex port vented through the base of the cabinet onto its plinth.

Sound & performance

As a three-way floorstander the Sonetto V separates the frequency range across dedicated drivers, giving an open, uncoloured midband and weighty, controlled low end. Quoted frequency response is 35Hz–40kHz, with the larger cabinet and twin woofers delivering the scale and authority that smaller models in the range cannot.

The driver complement comprises a 1.1-inch DAD “Arrow Point” tweeter, a 6.5-inch Camelia midrange and two 6.5-inch woofers. Sensitivity is 89dB with a 4-ohm nominal impedance, and the speaker is rated for amplifiers of 50–320W — comfortable with a wide range of quality amplification.

Technology

The DAD (Damped Apex Dome) Arrow Point tweeter uses a copper shorting ring for low distortion at high frequencies. The natural-fibre Camelia midrange — shared with the larger models in the range — is housed in a sealed internal chamber for a clean, well-isolated midband. Together these reflect the trickle-down of technology from the Suprema project into the Sonetto line.
