The 805 D4 is the smallest model in the Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series Diamond — a two-way stand-mount for a room that deserves a serious system but not the scale of a large floorstander. In a townhouse living room, a snug listening space or a cinema where the front left and right must sit neatly around joinery, it is a route to 800 Series performance without dominating the space.
The 805 D4 pairs a Matrix-braced cabinet with the solid-body Tweeter-on-Top, mounting the diamond tweeter in its own machined aluminium housing above the cabinet. It measures 440mm high, 240mm wide and 373mm deep and weighs 15.55 kg. Finishes are Gloss Black, White, Satin Rosenut and Satin Walnut. It is a stand-mount; stands are not included.
Quoted frequency response is 42Hz–28kHz (±3dB from the reference axis), with 88dB sensitivity and a nominal 8-ohm impedance falling to a 4.6-ohm minimum — a relatively kind load for a high-end stand-mount. Recommended amplifier power runs from 50W to 120W.
The drive complement is a 25mm diamond-dome tweeter and a 165mm Continuum cone handling bass and midrange. Mounting the tweeter in a separate solid body removes it from the influence of the main cabinet, sharpening imaging and lowering colouration.
The diamond dome is exceptionally rigid for its mass, keeping break-up well beyond the audible range. The Continuum cone avoids the sudden break-up of conventional cone materials for an open, uncoloured midband, and Matrix bracing keeps the compact cabinet inert under load.
